Jay Z breaks silence on Kanye West, politics and confirms a join album with Beyonce

On the heels of being nominated for eight Grammy awards, an extensive interview between Jay-Z and Dean Baquet, executive editor of The New York Times, has just seen the light of day and it's fascinating. 

The increasingly elusive rapper opens up for only the second time (the first being for Tidal's Rap Radar podcast) about his latest musical offering, 4:44. While in conversation with the first black executive editor at the Times, a 47 year-old Jay opened up about race, politics in addition to the music and threw in a tidbit of exciting news about a joint album with none other than his and our queen Beyonce. 

On Kanye West 
Jay Z  shares a bit more about the tension between him and West that publicly came to a head last year after West called Jay on stage. Turns out, the two are now on speaking terms again. 
I talked to Kanye the other day, just to tell him, like,  he's my brother.  I love Kanye. I do. It's a complicated relationship with us, Jay Z said. 
"In the long relationship, you know, hopefully when we're 89 we look at this six months or whatever time and we laugh at that. You know what I'm saying? There's gonna be complications in the relationship that we have to get through," he continued. "And the only way to get through that is we sit down and have a dialogue and say, 'These are the things that I'm uncomfortable with. These are the things that are unacceptable to me. This is what I feel.' I'm sure he feels that I've done things to him as well.

On leaders he admires
Apparently, if given the opportunity, Jay-Z would cast his vote for none other than Dave Chappelle.

When asked by Baquet which leaders in this country he looks up to, Jay offered up the controversial comedian, explaining that, "he tells it in humor so you can deal with it, but it's always a nice chunk of truth in there."

Despite living under the same roof as husband and wife, the two artists didn't plot to create parallel works that examine their family and volatile marriage. "It happened — we were using our art almost like a therapy session. And we started making music together," Jay-Z said before revealing that they were working together. "And then the music she was making at that time was further along. So her album came out as opposed to the joint album that we were working on. Um, we still have a lot of that music. And this is what it became."
The one good thing about Donald Trump?
Jay-Z is one of few who have chosen to see one positive thing from Donald Trump's presidency.

"But getting rid of [former NBA Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who was after racist remarks] just made everyone else go back into hiding, and now we can’t have the dialogue.The great thing about Donald Trump being president is now we’re forced to have the dialogue. Now we’re having the conversation on the large scale; he’s provided the platform for us to have the conversation," he explained.

Teenage female suicide bomber kills self in Borno

A teenage girl suspected to be a Boko Haram suicide bomber was on Saturday night killed when the vest strapped on her body exploded at the popular Customs area of Maiduguri, Borno State an official has said. According to reports, the explosion occurred at about 9:00pm and killed the bomber only which witnesses said could be about 15-years-old. “She was the only one that died in the explosion”, said Abba Sheriff, a witness who lives around Customs area. The Borno police public relations officer, Victor Isuku, confirmed the incident but could not provide more details. “Information reaching me now is that there was an explosion at custom area “Preliminary details available is that only the suicide bomber affected. However, standby for details soonest,” Isuku stated.

Fire rips through Jakarta(Indonesia) ferry, 23 died

At least 23 people have been killed and 17 others wounded when a ferry caught fire near the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, an official said. Rescue officials said a further 17 people were still unaccounted for. The boat caught on fire on Sunday about 1.6km out of port on its way to Tidung Island, a popular holiday destination in the Thousand Islands district, north of Jakarta. The passenger vessel, Zahro Express, was carrying about 200 people from Jakarta's port of Muara Angke to Tidung, a resort island in the Kepulauan Seribu chain, when it caught fire. Seventeen people were taken to hospital with injuries, according to local police spokesman Ferry Budiharso. Budiharso said the fire started when a power generator on the boat short-circuited.

Premier League referee, Mark Clattenburg has broken his silence over the row with Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi. The EPL referee was accused of saying “shut up you monkey” to the January 2. Super Eagles’ captain international in 2012. The FA accepted the player had believed the referee had racially abused him – but Clattenburg was found to have no case to answer. Chelsea star Mikel was subsequently given a three-match ban and fined £60,000 by the FA for threatening behaviour. In a rare interview, Clattenburg has spoken only about the incident and how it affected him. He told AP: “It was a tough moment in life and the pressures were huge. “It took me a little while to come back because I didn’t know if I wanted to referee or not because I lost the love for refereeing.” “I am strong willed now. New Year eve attack in Istanbul at a night club

  At least 39 people have been killed and 40 injured in a New Year’s Eve attack on a nightclub in central Istanbul, Turkish officials have said “This is a terrorist attack,” city governor Vasip Sahin said at the scene outside one of the city’s best known clubs, in Istanbul’s Ortakoy neighbourhood on the European bank of the Bosporus. He said that at 1.15 a.m. on Sunday (2215 GMT Saturday) an attacker had forced his way into Club Reina, where between 700 and 800 people were reportedly celebrating, by shooting dead a police officer and a civilian at the entrance. “He then carried out this violent and cruel act by spraying bullets on innocent people who were celebrating the New Year,” Sahin said, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency. Turkey’s interior minister, Suleyman Soylu said efforts were continuing to find the attacker, who was believed to have acted alone. At least 69 people were being treated in hospital, the minister added. Four were said to be in a serious condition. Only 21 of the victims had been identified, Soylu said, adding that 15 or 16 of them were foreigners. The fate of the attacker was not immediately clear and there was no immediate claim of responsibility. The DHA news agency published footage taken from a CCTV camera outside the club showing a man shooting in the busy street, with one person appearing to get hit and fall. The attacker, who appears to be dressed in black, then disappears inside the club. DHA had earlier reported that two men dressed as Santa Claus had attacked the club, opening fire with automatic weapons. A witness quoted by the Hurriyet newspaper also said she had seen two attackers. “Two people were shooting with weapons. Suddenly people started to run. My husband told me not to be afraid. He jumped on top of me. People ran over me. My man was shot in three places.” Special forces then stormed the club. The attack came just three weeks after more than 40 people were killed when two suicide bombers blew themselves up outside a football stadium also in the Besiktas district where the club is located. Television footage from CNN Turk showed dozens of ambulances and police cars outside the club on Sunday. “This is a malicious and treacherous attack against Turkey, our liberty, our unity, our brotherliness and against us all,” Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag wrote on Twitter. “The fight against terrorism would continue to be carried out unflinchingly,” he added. The White House condemned the attack “in the strongest terms” and reaffirmed its support for Turkey in the fight against terrorism. “2017 starts with an attack in Istanbul. Our thoughts are with victims and their loved ones. We continue to work to prevent these tragedies,” EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini tweeted. Security had been heightened in the city ahead of New Year’s celebrations, with a reported 17,000 police on patrol, over fears the city could be targeted by terrorists following a string of recent attacks. But security services were concentrated elsewhere, on the central Taksim Square and Istiklal Caddesi avenue, a popular nightlife strip.
