Argentine footballer Carlos Tevez is set to become the world’s highest paid footballer after the striker reportedly signed a two-year contract with Shanghai Shenhua which will see him earn about €720,000 per week. Shenhua and Argentina club Boca Juniors announced the transfer agreement for the 32-year-old Tevez on Thursday following weeks of rumors and speculation. “Shanghai Greenland Shenhua FC reached a transfer agreement with Argentina Club Atletico Boca Juniors. Carlos Alberto Tevez is officially joined Shanghai Shenhua,” the club said in a statement. Although no financial details of the deal were released, media reports have suggested that the Chinese club paid €84m for Tevez, who returned to Argentina last year after spells in England and Italy. The hefty price tag will make Tevez the world’s sixth most expensive player, behind Paul Pogba, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain and Neymar. However, this deal is not the first time Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, the largest Chinese city’s main soccer club, has caught international media attention. 15 persons killed by artillery fire near Damascus

 At least 15 civilians, including six children, were killed on Thursday in air strikes and artillery fire on rebel-held territory near Syria’s capital Damascus, a monitor said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was not immediately possible to determine where the strikes on the Eastern Ghouta region were carried out by the Syrian regime or its ally Russia. Eastern Ghouta has long been a rebel stronghold, and is regularly targeted by government air strikes and artillery fire. The Observatory, a Britain-based monitor, reported air strikes and artillery fire on the towns of Douma, Harasta, Arbin, Zamalka and Saqba in the region. An AFP correspondent in Eastern Ghouta said warplanes had been overheard since the early hours of the morning. Opposition fighters meanwhile launched a barrage of rockets at Damascus, the Observatory and an AFP correspondent in the capital said. Syrian state television reported seven people were wounded in the fire. Elsewhere, the Observatory said five civilians including a baby were killed in regime rocket fire overnight in the south of Daraa city. The violence came ahead of an announcement Thursday by Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Syrian government and rebels had signed a ceasefire deal and agreed to start peace talks. More than 310,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government protests in March 2011.

Why Buhari cancelled visit to Bauchi

 A combination of bad weather and political intrigues may have led to the cancellation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Bauchi State, the second time in three weeks. Buhari had earlier been scheduled to visit Bauchi State today to commission some projects but had to cancel the trip at the last minute over what the state government attributed to “bad weather.” The state government said in a tweet: “Mr President’s visit to Bauchi postponed. This is due to poor weather conditions as visibility is too low.” There were also insinuations that Buhari cancelled the trip at the last minute over the likelihood of clashes between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party. Posters bearing the photograph of a former PDP National Chairman, Ahmadu Ali, for the 2019 presidential race as well as Senator Ali Wakil for governorship suddenly appeared on the streets of the state capital, Bauchi, on Wednesday. Wakil has already denied any links to the posters. Buhari’s earlier scheduled December 13 visit was cancelled as he travelled to Gambia in company with some West African leaders to persuade outgoing President Yahya Jammeh to step down.

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday provided further details of how its gallant troops descended on and captured the dreaded Sambisa Forest from where the terrorist Boko Haram group had launched deadly attacks on Nigeria for years. Briefing journalists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Leo Irabor, a major general, said the operation was executed by a combination of ground attacks and air assaults on the location. Mr. Irabor said, “Recall that during our last meeting, I told you to take particular note of Camp Zairo in Sambisa Forest. Our gallant troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have cleared the location which is the last stronghold of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) deep inside Sambisa Forest. “On 22 Dec 16 at about 0800hrs, own troops commenced advance for the capture of Camp Zairo which was the main Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) enclave suspected to be holding high value persons in Sambisa Forest. “The Air Component and Artillery were effectively employed during the operation before the final assault by the troops. Our troops made contact with the BHT and successfully cleared the camp after some resistance from the insurgents. “On sighting of our troops and having been overpowered in the fire fight, most of the BHT fighters fled in all direction. The gallant troops subsequently carried out search for any abductees and equipment. Our troops also raided and destroyed other camps and hideouts around Camp Zairo. At the camp, our troops destroyed several BHT logistics as shown. “The gallant troops also dismantled the official BHT flag at Camp Zairo signifying the capture of the insurgents’ headquarters. The flag would be officially presented to me by the GOC 7 Div. Later, same would be conveyed to Chief of Air Staff for further action to the C-in-C. “During the operation in Sambisa, ISR coverage indicated that the BHT were in disarray.” Mr. Irabor said before the final assault on Sambisa Forest, troops conducted some fighting patrols around the area.

South Korea pension chief admits pushing samsung deal in park probe

South Korea’s National Pension Service chief admitted to pressuring the state-run fund to back a controversial merger of two Samsung units, prosecutors said Thursday during a widening probe into a corruption scandal engulfing impeached President Park Geun-Hye. Park is accused of colluding with long-time confidant Choi Soon-Sil to strong-arm companies like Samsung into handing over tens of millions of dollars to dubious foundations which Choi controlled. As part of the investigation, a team of special prosecutors has been looking into whether Samsung bribed Choi to win state approval for the merger of two of its units in July last year. Former health minister Moon Hyung-Pyo — now National Pension Service (NPS) chief — was taken into emergency detention Wednesday on allegations that he pressured the fund to vote in favour of the merger when he served in the health ministry. “He admitted that he gave such orders,” Special Prosecutors’ Office spokesman Hong Jung-Seok said. Hong said prosecutors have applied for a warrant to formally arrest Moon for abuse of power and giving false testimony. At a parliamentary hearing in November, Moon had denied any involvement in the merger. The merger of Samsung units Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T last year was seen as a crucial step to ensure a smooth father-to-son power transfer to Lee Jae-Yong, scion of Samsung’s founding family. Critics said it undervalued Samsung C&T stock but NPS — the world’s third largest public pension fund and a major Samsung shareholder — backed the deal, allegedly incurring hundreds of millions of dollars in losses for NPS subscribers. Choi has been formally indicted on charges of abuse of power and coercion. Parliament voted to impeach Park on December 9, accusing her of constitutional and criminal violations ranging from a failure to protect people’s lives to bribery and abuse of power. The case is now being considered by the Constitutional Court which was given 180 days to rule on the validity of the impeachment. The first hearing for Park’s impeachment is scheduled for next Tuesday.

APC lacks capacity to rule Nigeris - Lamido

The All Progressives Congress (APC)- led government would soon be two years in power, how would you assess the performance of the administration? What we are now seeing is a grand deception which has been used to attain government by a party which is not organised; a party which has no cohesion and history. If you look at the profiles of members of the APC, 95 per cent of them are the ‘PDP thieves.’ According to them, APC membership is made up of former governors, former senators, former vice presidents, former ministers, former everything that were of the PDP’s creation and PDP’s invention. The whole thing about APC government was built on quick sand and it is going to collapse. It is a fact, no matter how well you may wish the APC; no matter how hard you pray; it would be difficult for them because they don’t have capacity for anything. There is no way you can load a two-ton pickup with 60 tonnes of Dangote Cement and expect such vehicle to move. It can’t move because there are bigger trucks for conveying such kind of consignment. The Nigerian load, in terms of its own weight, intensity, contradictions, divide, problems and crises are beyond the capacity of the APC as a vehicle to drive Nigeria Therefore to me, the APC-led government of Muhammadu Buhari; the General I knew for two decades, with all his antecedents; I don’t think he has the capacity nor his party to lead this great country diligently, going by what we are witnessing today with all their jamboree programmes and mission. President Muhammadu Buhari has severally blamed the present woes on the past government led by the PDP. What is your take on that? If there is any great beneficiary of the PDP in Nigeria, the person is Buhari. From 1998 to 1999, there is no way he can get into any contest in Nigeria. He can’t contest; I don’t mean to insult him. But it is simply a historical empirical fact. With all those who are now calling the shots, all thanks to the PDP because the country has been stabilised and reconciled. One thing I find very funny is the claim that PDP left nothing in the kitty. To me, I find that very laughable because nowhere in the Nigerian constitution is it mandated that you must save for the incoming government. They said we have taken all the money and left nothing. And for 16 years, we have done nothing in Nigeria. We couldn’t have been so totally dormant for 16 years. Having done nothing as they claimed and then there is no money, the two don’t add up. We left nothing; therefore they can’t work. How do you see the future of democracy in Nigeria, considering the manner of campaigns in the last general elections? I have been saying this over and over that the strength of the APC and their propelling force, was simply a desire to remove the PDP and harm the party. That is why in their campaigns, they said a number of things. There is no big deal when anybody says anything. But then as leaders, you don’t cross beyond the red line, which serves as a benchmark. In trying to go contrary, you are coming below the level of decency and leadership. You can’t say anything simply because you are trying to appease your constituency. The APC came below level and said a number of things most of which were pure lies; that the PDP is Boko Haram, They looked at the Nigerian terrain and applied slogans that fit the environment. In the North, where there are Muslims, they talked about Islam. When they go around Kafanchan, Plateau or Benue, they change their style. When they go to South, they say a different thing. But in the PDP because we are talking about the nation, wherever we go, the appeal is uniform. It is about Nigeria and the Nigerian federation. Most of those who are under the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) investigation were those who served this country at one point or the other under the PDP government. What is your assessment of the war against corruption under Buhari administration? Nobody condones corruption but you don’t go on such smear campaign terrorising people and demonising a political party in a country that we are supposed to be equal. With this, it means there are two Nigerians; Nigerians of the PDP, people of evil, people who are thieves, who did nothing for Nigeria and then the other Nigerians of the APC. Even if you might have been tagged a thief, after joining the APC with the power and piety of Buhari, you will be clean. When justice is lost, there would be some problems. Today, no matter how big you are as a thief, if you go to the APC, they will accept you. Look at those going to the APC in the last two to three weeks; they are people, who are on trial by the EFCC. The APC willingly received them with celebration and fanfare. The APC is a huge sanctuary for thieves now. The leadership should be able to exude confidence, respect and trust, not fear. A leader should be wishing that by his coming to office, he gives you the kind of inspiration, the kind of confidence, and then, you respect him, love him and not that you fear him. So, fear is never an instrument of governance. Fear will make you desperate and when you are very desperate, you know the consequences. The future of the PDP seems to be bleak, considering the problems confronting the party. What effort is the leadership putting in place to rejuvenate the party? The courts and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can’t solve problems in the PDP. It is none of their business. All the PDP state chairmen are on the side of the Ahmed Makarfiled National Caretaker Committee, including the zonal chairmen from six zones and the state’s assembly of the 12 states that we are controlling. The governors of the party, all former ministers, ambassadors and presidents in the PDP are on Makarfi’s side because that is where the party is. So, if somebody like Ali Modu Sheriff, who is my very good friend and brother is ignorant of the tradition, culture, mission, vision at the formation of the PDP, I can understand. He was an All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governor, senator, party leader and part of the amalgamation of the APC. He is coming from an entirely different background. So, if he fumbles, don’t blame him. If he fails to understand, don’t blame him. If he can’t comprehend, don’t blame him. If he fails to know the vision, don’t blame him. The courts or INEC can’t help us. It is not their business. It is the members of the party, who are coming from a background and history that should look at things and say ‘what do we do?’

Naira weakens to N490/$ at parallel market

The Naira on Wednesday weakened to N490 to a dollar at the parallel market after appreciating to N485 to a dollar during the Christmas break. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Naira lost 5 points, representing a depreciation of 1.03 per cent, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N590 and 502, respectively. At the Bureau De Change (BDC) Window, the Naira traded at N399 to a dollar, CBN controlled rate, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N602 and N510, respectively. The Naira traded at N305.25 to a dollar at the official interbank market. Traders at the market said that the scarcity of forex was still exerting pressures on the Naira. Meanwhile, Aminu Gwadabe, President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria, ABCON, said that the pressure on the Naira was disturbing and dangerous to investment, output and employment. Mr. Gwadabe called for harmony between the fiscal and monetary policies in addressing the woes of the Naira. “There is the need for concerted collaboration among both the fiscal, monetary policy makers and the operators in the economy to address this monster facing the economy. “I must confess that I am disturbed and worried,” Mr. Gwadabe said. He also said earlier on: “The flaps, b**ch, what the f**k!” Major Roman Volkov, his co-pilot, a navigator and an engineer can be heard struggling to regain control of the plane. Russian news agency Interfax said the “completed preliminary analysis of the data recorder…. leads to the conclusion that the priority version of the disaster is an error of piloting”. However, experts say the flaps appeared not to be functioning “asynchronously” which could be a technical problem as well as pilot error. Fifteen bodies have been pulled form the water so far, according to the Defence Ministry. In addition some 156 fragments of the plane have been found. So far, only one passenger has been identified by relatives.

According to the police prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, by petting her and bringing her to sit on his lap. The police said the case file of the matter had been duplicated and that he had sent same to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the state for legal advice. The plea of the accused was not taken when the matter was mentioned because of his counsel, Mr. Tunde Olayemi, sought for a date of adjournment pending the presentation of the report of the DPP. 1,240 Boko Haram Suspects in Custody

Nigeria Army said it had arrested about 1,240 suspected Boko Haram terrorists during a mop-up operation by troops inside the Sambisa forest. Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, disclosed this while giving update to newsmen on Operation Rescue Final at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri. Irabor said that 413 of the suspects were adults; 323 were female adults; 251 male children, while 253 were female children. He said that the suspects were apprehended during a mop-up operation against the sect members in the forest. “We are interrogating them to know whether they are Boko Haram members, because there is no way somebody that is not their member would live inside Sambisa forest. “We are still on the trail of the terrorists and I want to assure you that all escape routes have been blocked. “Within this period, also, about 30 fleeing suspected Boko Haram members have surrendered to the Niger Multinational Troops on the shores of the Lake Chad and we learnt that they were taken to Difa in the Niger Republic. “The suspects include 24 males and six females. “We would like to use this opportunity to encourage the terrorists to give up the fight because the window is still open,” the commander said. Also, the Army disclosed that it had recovered Abubakar Shekau’s Qur’an and flag in Camp Zero, Boko Haram’s Headquarters in Sambisa forest. “We believe that the Holy Book and the flag were abandoned by Abubakar Shekau while he escaped. “The book will be taken to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai, for onward presentation to Mr. President. “We have also made a lot of arrests. Our troops in Damboa arrested about 15 Boko Haram members. We also arrested one Musa from Potiskum on Christmas day, which was December 25. “On December 26 our troops also intercepted two Boko Haram suspects in Maiduguri. We, therefore, warn residents of the state to be wary of people coming to hide in and around their houses. “We are also warning residents to report any suspected Boko Haram member hiding in their houses to the relevant security agencies and any failure to do that would be tantamount to supporting and sympathising with the sect’s activities,’’ Irabor said. Meanwhile, Niger’s Interior Minister yesterday said dozens of Boko Haram fighters have given themselves up to authorities in southern Niger, days after the Islamist group suffered key losses over the border in Nigeria. Minister Mohamed Bazoum said that 31 young people from Diffa, who were enrolled a few years ago in Boko Haram, decided to surrender. The fighters arrived in the remote desert town of Diffa in groups and were being held by local authorities. “I learnt that the first who surrendered were not arrested, and I surrendered. We expect a pardon from the government so that we can participate in the development of the country and help us get rid of the trauma,” a former Boko Haram combatant told newsmen. In June, tens of thousands of people fled Diffa as Boko Haram swept the region. However, five Niger soldiers were killed by the militants near Diffa in September. It was not clear what would become of the ex- Boko Haram fighters, but authorities said there was the possibility of reintegrating them back into society. A security source said a meeting was planned for yesterday in Diffa to discuss “the conditions of surrender,” without providing further details. Boko Haram has killed 15,000 people and displaced over two million during a seven-year insurgency aimed at creating an Islamic state in Nigeria. In recent years, its attacks have spilled into neighbouring Niger, Cameroon and Chad. Hundreds of Boko Haram fighters surrendered in Chad in October and November as the group ceded territory.

Army arrest 40 foreigners after capture at sambisa forest

The Nigerian Army has arrested over 40 foreign nationals, since the capture of Sambisa Forest, according to The Nation. A source revealed that the foreigners were being investigated, to ascertain if they were working for Boko Haram or not. “In the last one week since we launched massive operations in Sambisa Forest, we have arrested over 40 foreigners,” he said. “We will come up with the details later after the profiling of these suspects. They are all being debriefed. But we discovered that there were so many foreigners in the midst of Boko Haram. “We have also rescued a lot of people who are being screened too.” The source also added that Boko Haram has been dispersed and dislocated. “The success of the operations is significant because there is no habitation beyond these areas in Sambisa Forest. The area is about 66,000 sq kilometres and there are so many parts uninhabited,” he added. “Many insurgents, including their leaders, were killed and many were captured.  The Lagos State government plans to host what it calls a better, bigger and bolder edition of the popular One Lagos Fiesta across the five divisional zones of the state, starting from today, the Christmas eve, Saturday December 24. In a statement signed on Thursday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the government said residents and visitors in Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and Lagos Island will be treated to the best of musical entertainment, cultural displays, comedy and cuisine from the state. The fiesta, which made its debut in 2015 after the Lagos Countdown was rechristened One Lagos Fiesta and spread across the five divisions of Lagos, will run daily from 12 midday to 12 midnight, with the first six hours dedicated to entertainment for children. According to the Commissioner, the fiesta is running on the same template like last year’s but with three notable additions to make it more impactful this year. He said, “first, the duration of the fiesta is longer this year. Instead of the five days of last year, Lagosians will have eight days of fun and camaraderie this year. Secondly, there will be reward for new talents across the five zones this year. We have already had a very successful audition where 50 successful candidates were picked from each of the zones. They will have the opportunity to perform on the same stage as the superstars that will be featured this year. Two finalists will emerge from each zone by Friday the 30th December. Those lucky 10 will then slug it out at the grand finale of OLF at the Eko Atlantic stage with three winners that will be rewarded handsomely. “More importantly, this year’s fiesta has a broader base of artistes, beyond hip-hop and contemporary music. Christmas seems to have lost its meaning for the citizens of New York until one day a man claiming to be the real Santa Clause applies at Macy’s. Kris Kringle is indignant to find that the man assigned to play Santa in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is intoxicated. When he complains to event director Doris Walker, she persuades Kringle to take his place. Its visuals are weak compared to today’s standards, but its story and characters are what keep fans coming back. It moves from incredibly comedic to hauntingly dramatic to create a movie that is the epitome of an emotional roller coaster. The travels of George Bailey and Clarence Odbody through an alternate universe makes for a fantastic and thrilling ride that culminates in a beautiful and wise ending that transcends across the sentiments of many generations. “A Christmas Story” A Christmas Story is a 1983 American Christmas comedy film based on the short stories and semi-fictional anecdotes of author, raconteur Jean Shepherd. Ralphie Parker’s quest for a Red Rider BB Gun is shot down at every turn by his parents, mall santas and his teachers. While all this is going on he is trying to fend off the bullies at school who won’t stop taunting him. Jean Shephard’s semi-biographical account of young Ralphie Parker has some of the most memorable Christmas scenes of any movie. Billonaire Reubens sell data enter stake to Chinese investors

British billionaire brothers David and Simon Reuben sold a 49 percent stake in data center operator Global Switch Holdings Ltd to Chinese investors, despite security concerns surrounding the deal. A consortium of private sector Chinese investors assembled by Daily-Tech founder Li Qiang and led by Jiangsu Sha Steel Group, will pay a cash consideration of 2.4 billion pounds ($2.96 billion), Global Switch said in a statement. The company houses web servers for the financial and telecommunications industries as well as governments. Its data centers are located across Europe, as well as in Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. Concerns over potential security risks were voiced in September, when speculation of a deal with China first arose. Former U.K. Foreign Secretary Malcolm Rifkind urged the government to scrutinize the transaction. Global Switch sought to ease such concerns upon announcing the deal. “All Global Switch data centers will continue to comply with the guidance issued by the UK Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure as part of the UK government’s national security strategy,” it said in the statement.

No fewer than 306 persons were killed as a result of tanker explosions across the nation in 2016. The Corp Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, who made this disclosure on Friday, said the road accidents involved 338 fuel tankers and 692 vehicles nationwide. The FRSC boss, who spoke yesterday at the flag off of the Special End of Year 2016 Patrol in Makurdi, lamented that “losses from tanker crashes have been estimated to be causing the nation about N7billion annually.” Oyeyemi , who was represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Julius Asom, said that the campaign against carnage on Nigerian roads needed the support and collaboration of all stakeholders in the country. Nigerian Policeman kills colleague over money dispute and a student at fire outbreak

A mobile police officer attached to Zenith Bank, Zaria, on Friday killed his colleague attached to the same bank following disagreement over monthly stipends being given them by the bank. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that quarrel between the police officers, Mathew Joshua, a corporal, and Aliyu Kamilu, a sergeant, ensued following discovery that the sergeant had been short-changing the corporal. When Mr. Joshua confronted Mr. Kamilu on the issue, they started shouting at each other and “the corporal, who is holding-on to his rifle shot at the sergeant in his stomach. “After shooting the sergeant, Joshua started shouting and shooting sporadically, which eventually led to the killing of a university student,” a witness told NAN. The witness said that four customers of the bank also sustained bullet wounds. “When the report of the incident reached their command in Zaria, a team of police officers was immediately mobilised to the area. “The policemen met their colleague with two rifles. They had no option than to systematically take position. “One of them succeeded in shooting Joshua on the leg, which gave people around the opportunity to descend on him with stones.” He said Mr. Joshua, the corpses of Mr. Kamilu and the student were rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria. A correspondent who visited ABUTH reports that the hospital authority also confirmed the death of the student and Mr. Kamilu. A source at the Police Area Command, Zaria, also confirmed the death of Mr. Joshua at ABUTH. “The Nigeria Police has no case because the two policemen gave-up the ghost. “Information coming to us now is that the affected policemen have died, therefore, we have no case.” When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Police Command, Kaduna, DSP Aliyu Usman, confirmed the incident. He, however, said that he was yet to get details on the matter.

World's First Solar Panel Road recently opened in France

French officials have opened the world’s first solar road in the region of Normandy, unveiling a 1-kilometre-long route covered in 2,880 photovoltaic panels. The trial roadway, called Wattway, passes through the small town of Tourouvre-au-Perche. It’s expected to be used by approximately 2,000 motorists daily during a two-year test period, to see just how much electricity it can generate. The project was financed by the French Ministry of the Environment and built by engineering firm Colas, and initial estimates of the power output suggest the Wattway will generate more than enough electricity to run all of Tourouvre-au-Perche’s street lights. The Wattway is projected to produce 280 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy annually, with an estimated electrical output of 767 kilowatt hours (kWh) per day. The Ministry of the Environment says that’s enough to provide public lighting for a population of 5,000, so provided the weather cooperates, Tourouvre-au-Perche’s 3,400 residents should have their nights lit up by the Sun from now on. But while the accomplishment may be unprecedented, critics say the cost of building the Wattway at €5 million doesn’t add up, pointing out that the energy produced by the solar road costs 13 times as much as building rooftop panels. Part of this is attributable to the Wattway’s unique construction, which has been engineered to withstand being driven over repeatedly by cars and large trucks. The panels are covered with a resin containing sheets of silicon, so they can survive heavy traffic.

Meet GIONEE M17 6gb Ram 7000mAh set to launch soon

Ahead of its scheduled launch on December 26, live photos of the beautiful Gionee M2017 showcasing its unique design has appeared on Weibo. The M2017 was said to have been featured by Gionee in an exhibition at a partner conference organized by China Mobile held in Guangzhou, China recently. The images feature an all-black variant of the expected flagship with the main highlight being the dual curved display devoid of display bezels.  We had first spotted the Gionee M2017 a couple of weeks back with curved screen, leather-like back and dual rear cameras in a leaked image and later on the device appeared on TENAA where it received certification. A couple of renders of the device accompanied the TENAA listing and they showed the device indeed sporting a leather-like covering at the back with a color combination of black and gold and a curved display. These latest Weibo-leaked renders adorn an all-black setup, though. There is the physical front button lying just under the display and it houses the fingerprint scanner since there is no sign of one at the rear. The main highlight at the rear is the dual camera setup which sits at the rear. The rear dual camera is a combo of 12MP + 13MP sensors with support for 4X optical zoom. There is also an 8MP front camera on the device. As a reminder, the Gionee M2017 sports a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 2K resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). We’ll reiterate that this is a curved or hyperboloid display and it should be Gionee’s first device with such design. The M2017 is fired up by a 1.958GHz octa-core processor supported by 6GB RAM as well as a massive 128GB of non-expandable storage.  The device also packs a very large 7,000mAh battery with up to 23 days battery life and which features support for reverse charging. The Gionee M2017 is listed as running Android Marshmallow 6.0 operating system and comes with dual SIM/ Dual standby as well as entire network support.

Are they even real potatoes!?Mythbusters host, Grant Imahara, is here to find out. It turns out that the fries are made from a variety of potatoes like russet burbanks and umatillas. They do not use GMO potatoes. The taters are shot through this potato cutter to create their distinct shape. The potato gun is so fast that it shoots the potatoes through the cutter at about 60 - 70 mph! After they are cut the fries are covered in sodium acid pyrophosphate so that it keeps the fries from graying after freezing. They are also covered in dextrose to keep the fries consistently golden.
